Q/A - Elcometer Waterborne Kit

Q. How does the CFM Flowmeter function, and how is the information useful?

A. The CFM Flowmeter measures the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air absorbed by paint guns, and other equipment used during the painting process. Having this knowledge is very important because it can help avoid a defective end result.

Paint booths disburse there air pressure from one main tank. Often multiple pieces of equipment are run from this base unit at the same time. Knowing the CFM absorbed from each component, allows for the calculation to stay within the max output range of the base unit when running more than one device at a time. If a booth is running multiple pieces of equipment which absorb more air pressure than their max output can handle, none of the equipment will function properly.

The CFM Flowmeter also gives an indication of the true air pressure reaching the connection point. Often the noted output at the base does not correlate with the true air pressure reaching the end of the air line. The length of the air line, wear and tear, etc, can all play a factor in losing the pounds of pressure. Knowing the true pressure reaching your equipment further enables the correct set up for your booth.
