By KARL RITTER, Associated Press Writer

PRETORIA, South Africa (AP)—Landon Donovan scored in injury time as the United States advanced to the round of 16 with a 1-0 win over Algeria in a stunning climax to Group C play Wednesday at the World Cup.

After coming within minutes of elimination, Donovan’s late winner lifted the United States to first place in Group C with five points, topping a World Cup group for the first time since 1930.

The Passing of a Baseball Legend

It is a somber day in Detroit after the passing of Ernie Harwell. I never had the chance to meet Ernie but from the stories I’ve heard and read he was not only a great announcer but a great person that will be missed by all.

Tiger is Back!

Now that Tiger Woods is back on the pro tour, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that a new television commercial for Nike featuring Tiger will air on ESPN and the Golf Channel tonight and Thursday during the Masters.

The ad is said to feature a black-and-white shot of Woods staring into the camera while the voice of his late father, Earl Woods, plays in the background. Earl Woods, who died in 2006, talks about taking responsibility for one's actions, words that definitely could apply to his son's life in recent years.

Olympics Vs American Idol

It looks like I'm not the only one that can't pull myself away from the TV during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

The Olympics on NBC Wednesday night broke American Idol's six-year unbeaten streak in viewers across America. When going head-to-head against Idol from 8 to 9 p.m., the Olympics drew nearly 12 million more viewers -- 30.1 million vs. 18.4 million.

Always Be Cobbling!

Its Christmas time! This season always makes me rejoice and be thankful for being so blessed. I look forward to spending the holidays with family and friends. It also makes me think of one of my favorite SNL skits with Alec Baldwin. This is based off the great scene from the movie Glengarry Glen Ross. Even if you haven’t seen the movie I think you will still enjoy the clip.

Poor surface preparation or poor testing procedures?

I recently came across a poll on a coatings website that asked for the most common reason why coatings fail? Over 80% (including myself) chose poor surface preparation.

Then, I thought, why are so many people having surface prep problems? This must be because of the lack of testing, improper equipment, or improper testing methods. This is where Elcometer can help. We offer the testing equipment and know how that can be used to achieve proper surface conditions.
