Sports These Days... Anyone Concerned?

Okay all you sports fans out there, I'm opening up the discussion of where major sports are headed in the future. I watch games, listen to talk radio in the car, and love to heckle Cubs fans. It's entertaining to me. I watch ESPN, and can watch Sportscenter over and over. It's my soap drama! But has anyone else noticed how media driven sports has become? And how much money team owners and TV networks are making?

Let's take Jerry Jones for instance. He builds an absurdly huge and luxuriant football stadium in Dallas, and is also hosting basketball games, concerts, and who knows what else inside. The NBA All-Star game is there this year and they hope to bring in 100,000 fans. That $500 upper level seat will have a great view! Think of the money this guy is gonna make hosting all sorts of huge events. The Cowboys will just be another sideshow for him. Wait, I think that happened before the new stadium...

On that note, can you think of a stadium that isn't named after a business? Can you name 3? Took you a minute, huh?

One thing that really concerns me is college sports. More money is tied up in Bowl games and the NCAA tournament than any of us could fathom. How many Bowl games were there this year? And how many times did you hear of scandals, shady recruiting, and coaches on the chopping block after less than 3 years at a program? Are sports in general losing their integrity?

Well, just some thoughts to hopefully get a discussion going. Throw in your 2 cents, or just vent for a few minutes if you like (not you, Cubs fans). Oh, and by the way,

GO COLTS!!!
